Yesterday I was talking with my mom and she told me about one of her friends doing a "100 mile month," wherein anyone who participates sets the goal of walking 100 miles a month. This is a great goal for anyone to obtain no doubt, but I got to thinking: Why not do a 100 mile week?
After all, I do about 10 miles a day anyways, and if I go from six days a week to seven days a week working out, then I'll have to add on approximently three miles, anyways. For example, on Monday I only did ten miles, and yesterday I did fourteen miles. So, if I accomplish 16 miles today and tomorrow, I will be able to go down to 14 the following days. And really, how hard is it to do a few more miles? Not hard at all! And, if I accomplish 100 miles every week for the rest of the year, that will be 4,000 miles! And if I do an entire year, it will be 5,200! I think rockin' that will definetly get me closer to my goal in no time!
Yesterday, I tried on my goal pants that I had wrote about the day before, and to my amazement, they fit! I could hardly believe it! With that new inspiration I did my normal two hour work out, but went back for another work out after dinner with my mom and sister and got another three miles in, and for one of those miles, I actually ran. Yeah, the girl who never ran before in her life, ran! It was pretty exciting and just reinforces the fact that yes, I can do anything that I set my mind to.
So, ready or not, 100 mile week, here I come.

67 Miles!!
When I started this brand new "weight loss journey" (I really hate calling it that. It's like, hello, I know I'm not skinny, but I don't need to get all sentimental and spiritual about it, sheesh), I started out slow. Walking to work, walking places I needed to go instead of driving, playing outside instead of being inside not really doing anything. Then I started stepping it up a bit (well, actually a lot), and got my butt in gear!
I started making more conscious decisions about my time; if I want to watch a TV show, that's fine, but I must do something while I watch. Sitting on the couch is no longer an option; I must either spin for a minimum of ten miles (because I knock out about five miles in twenty minutes, give or take) or I do crunches or leg lifts...no time to sit around and be lazy!! On top of my "always moving" mantra, my entire family has started Weight Watchers which is basically the best thing since 35 calorie bread slices! I can actually eat and be full and still lose weight! It's fantastic!
Don't get me wrong I have always loved my body, but I loved it more when I was thinner in my High School days; hell, even my first year of college it was pretty good! But after that...oh boy. What's done is done and now I'm on to better (body) things. In the past week I've sweated more than I can ever remember.
In the past week alone I've logged....
25 miles on the ski machine
16 miles on the Elliptical
27 miles biking
600 crunches
500 leg extensions, and
400 leg curls
I know it isn't super impressive or anything, but for someone who hasn't been good at exercising or actually sticking with anything, it's pretty freaking awesome! I feel better than ever, and after the sore muscles wore off and remembering the importance of stretching, it was more than worth it. I can honestly say however, that after not being skinny and working towards being healthy/skinny (yes, I said it. My goal weight is considered "skinny"), I will be appreciating it more than if I didn't have to sweat my ass off every single day for two hours, sweat soaking through my shirt, dripping off my eye lashes and nose, not a single place dry on my entire body. But hey, you know what they say: You have to sweat like a pig to look like a fox ;)
Weight Lost : I'm up to an official 13 pounds (since I started weighing in at the club...but it's actually more than that)
Goal: The next size down...I'm about an inch from the pants zipping up the whole way! My last goal pants from two weeks ago are falling off which is great, but now I have saggy-ass syndrome!
New favorite snack: Apple sticks! So yummy!

Notes from a Fat Girl
As it is, I am not thin, nor have I ever been traditionally "skinny," either. Growing up I had hips and thighs and was the pudgy girl from day one. Sure when I got in middle school I prided myself in the fact that my thighs didn't touch at the top, but hated that I didn't have the stick thin frame my friends did. I ended up growing somewhat normally, being the average size twelve, but even then compared to my friends, I was huge.
Enter college: I gained seventy pounds in three years. A serious lack of exercise and going off the very strict diet my mom kept us on of no red meat, no take out, no pizza, no junk food. I learned how fabulous Taco Bell is, and started caffinated pop (something I hadn't done before) and watched as the weight came on and the sizes went up. All in all, I was the girl with the "pretty face," meaning if I had a body I'd be better looking.
Flash forward to Fall 2011: As I'm talking to a friends about a dress, she says, "Everyone else wearing it is either a size two or four, so...." and left it at that, since we both know I am neither a size two or a size four. I decided right then I would starve myself to look damn good in it, but let's be real: once you're a hungry girl, you're always a hungry girl.
Flash forward to Friday: I'm at the doctors, and the nurse tells me "You carry your weight well." Ouch.
I had to rethink my plan. My mom was on a very strict diet that had helped her lose 105 pounds, and I had tried it as well, but I'm not great at dieting. I had done one the summer before, and with the help from Alli, I lost over thirty pounds, and felt great, until the day I shit my pants. (True story, but more about that later!) After falling off the weight bandwagon one too many times, and having come into accepting my curves and the fact that I may never be a size four I realized it's okay. As long as I have goals and keep working toward them, who knows what can happen?!
Since I started "keeping track" of my weight, and joining a very expensive gym last week, I'm down seven pounds "officially," although I've lost about 10 pounds in the past three weeks simply by cutting pop, alcohol and sweets out of my life, and really monitoring what I put into my mouth. Truth is, I feel great!
Yesterday was my first solo work out without a trainer or my mom to kick my butt...It. Was. Amazing. Every time I thought about quitting, I kept thinking about my thighs and how much smaller they can be, and how much flatter my stomach can be, and telling myself that even though I'm okay with being curvy, everything looked so much better on me when I weighed seventy pounds less. I keep telling myself that if I want to be a Former Fat Girl, I have to suck it up and deal with it. Truth is, the weight didn't come on all in one day, and it's going to take more than a day, a month or a year to get to where I want to be. But, it's my challenge to myself, and there is no way in hell I am backing down now.
So, here's how it looks for me right now: I have small goals set up, and yesterday I met my first one...I bought a pair of pants three months ago that were two sizes too small. I thought I'd give them a try to see if they'd zip yet. I pulled them on, slip them over my thighs, and up over my hips. Buttoned them, and then watched in amazement as they zipped with ease. It was the best motivation to keep me going. I have another pair of goal pants, also two sizes smaller, that I can't wait to try on in another months time!
Overall, this is how it looks for me:
Weight lost since I started weighing in: 7 pounds.
Weight lost overall: 17 pounds
Goals reached: No pop and sweets in the past three weeks
Goal pants fit, down two sizes!
Exercise: Ski machine for almost six miles
Biked for 10 miles (at a time, did two sets of ten miles)
(Also raked, did yard work and played wiffle ball, if you want to count those!)
I know it isn't the most impressive list, but it's a start. For someone who knows that she can do it, and is determined, and isn't skinny, I think it's fabulous (even if I am talking about myself!) So there you have it...I'm working on getting healthy and fit and looking forward to the day when I'm more than just a pretty face.
